HI CANADA · LEGAL

Privacy policy

This policy explains how Hi Canada handles personal information when you browse, create an account, publish a listing, apply for a job, contact another member or buy a Hi Canada product.

Effective August 14, 2026

1. Who this applies to

Hi Canada is a Vancouver-focused platform for local jobs, housing and local information. This policy applies to our website, account services and related communications. It does not apply to an independent website, employer, landlord, advertiser or other member you choose to deal with.

2. Information we collect

We collect information you give us and information needed to run the service.

  • Account information, such as email address, authentication provider ID and the profile information shared by Google when you choose Google sign-in.
  • Listing, organization and profile information, including names, descriptions, images, websites, tags, language choices and other content you publish.
  • Job-application information, including your resume, name, email address, optional note, the job applied to, delivery and viewing status, and a copy of the resume as it appeared when you applied.
  • Messages, reports and support requests that you send through Hi Canada.
  • Payment and billing information for Hi Canada products, such as a Stripe customer, checkout or payment status. Card numbers are handled by Stripe, not stored by Hi Canada.
  • Technical information needed to operate and protect the service, such as session cookies, IP address, browser/device information and server security logs.

3. Why we use it

  • Provide accounts, listings, job applications, messages, saved activity and organization workspaces.
  • Deliver an application to the relevant job publisher and let the applicant and authorized hiring team track it.
  • Display public listings and the publisher information you choose to make public.
  • Process Hi Canada fees, prevent duplicate charges and keep billing records.
  • Investigate reports, enforce our rules, detect abuse and protect the platform.
  • Improve reliability, understand aggregate use and communicate important service or policy changes.

4. Consent and lawful handling

We collect, use and disclose personal information only for purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate in the circumstances, with consent where required or as otherwise permitted by law. By providing information for a clearly identified feature, you consent to the handling reasonably necessary to provide that feature.

You may withdraw consent for optional handling by contacting us, subject to legal and contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. Withdrawing consent may mean that a feature or the service can no longer be provided.

  • Creating an account is optional, but is required to publish, save or message.
  • Google sign-in is optional; email sign-in remains available.
  • Public profile fields and general area visibility can be controlled from profile settings.
  • Marketing messages, if introduced, will include the choices required by applicable law.

5. What is public

A listing is public when it is published. Its title, description, images, selected tags, general location, organization or publisher name, and the contact route offered through the listing may be visible to anyone and may appear in search engines. Public content may remain in search-engine caches or copies made by others after it is removed from Hi Canada.

A resume is private by default. It is disclosed only when you deliberately submit an application, to the publisher of that job and authorized members of its organization workspace. An application email may include a time-limited private review link. The recipient may download and retain the resume independently of Hi Canada.

Do not put passport details, banking details, government identification numbers, exact home-access information or another person’s private information in a listing, profile, resume or message.

6. Cookies and technical data

We use cookies and similar browser storage that are necessary for authentication, language preferences, security, fraud prevention and basic service operation. We may use limited analytics or performance measurements to understand page reliability and aggregate usage. If we later introduce non-essential advertising or tracking technology, we will provide any notice or choice required by law.

7. Service providers, locations and disclosure

We use service providers to operate Hi Canada, including Cloudflare for hosting and security, Supabase for authentication, database and storage, Stripe for payment processing, and Google when you choose Google sign-in. These providers may process information in Canada, the United States or other countries where they or their subprocessors operate. Information processed outside Canada may be accessible to courts, law enforcement or regulators under local law.

We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to a valid legal request, protect people or property, investigate fraud or abuse, establish or defend legal claims, collect amounts owed, or complete a financing, reorganization, sale or transfer of all or part of the service. A successor may continue handling information under this policy or a policy notified to users.

8. Aggregated and de-identified information

We may create statistics, trends and other aggregated or de-identified information from service activity. We may use, publish, share or license that information for product planning, research, commercial insights or reporting only where it does not reasonably identify an individual. We do not sell personal information, and we do not permit recipients to attempt to re-identify de-identified information.

9. Retention

We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described here, including while an account is active and afterwards where needed for backups, security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, payment and tax records, or legal obligations. Retention depends on the type of record, whether it is public, the sensitivity of the information and applicable legal requirements.

You may replace or delete the resume saved in your account. To preserve what was actually shared and support application records, a separate snapshot attached to an application may remain after the saved resume is replaced or deleted, until the application record is deleted or reaches its retention limit. A job publisher may separately retain a downloaded copy for lawful recruiting and record-keeping purposes.

Deleting content or an account may not immediately remove copies from encrypted backups, security logs, payment-provider records or records we must retain by law. Those copies are isolated from ordinary use and removed or anonymized according to applicable retention cycles.

10. Security and incidents

We use reasonable administrative, technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including access controls, managed infrastructure and encrypted network connections. No online system is completely secure, and users are responsible for protecting their devices and sign-in credentials.

If a privacy or security incident occurs, we will investigate, contain and document it and provide notices to affected people or regulators where required or otherwise appropriate.

11. Access, correction and deletion

You can update some profile and listing details in your account. You may request access to personal information under our control, ask how it has been used or disclosed, request correction, or request deletion by contacting privacy@hi-canada.com. We may verify your identity, charge a lawful fee after giving notice, or refuse access where an exception under applicable law applies. If we cannot make a requested correction, we may annotate the record where required.

12. Questions and complaints

Hi Canada is responsible for personal information under its control. Privacy questions and complaints may be sent to the privacy contact at privacy@hi-canada.com. We will review and respond within a reasonable time. If a concern is not resolved, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.

13. Children and changes

Hi Canada is not directed to children under 16. Do not create an account for a child or submit a child’s personal information without appropriate consent.

We may update this policy as the product develops. The current version will be posted here with an updated effective date. For a material change, we may also provide notice in the service or by email and seek renewed consent where required.
