Terms of use

1. Hi Canada is a platform

Hi Canada helps people discover and publish local jobs, housing and local information. We are not an employer, recruiter, staffing agency, landlord, real-estate brokerage, insurer, immigration adviser, escrow service or party to a transaction between members. You decide whether and how to deal with another person or organization.

2. Eligibility and acceptance

You must be at least 16 and legally able to enter these terms. If you use Hi Canada for a business or organization, you confirm that you have authority to bind it and that both you and the organization accept these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

3. Your account and workspace

Use accurate information, protect your sign-in details and tell us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without permission. You are responsible for activity performed through your account until you notify us of unauthorized access.

A personal account may publish personal listings. An organization workspace may publish under the organization name only when its owner or authorized member has authority to act for that organization. We may request reasonable evidence of authority, but do not promise to verify every organization. Do not impersonate another person, business or organization, sell access to an account, or create accounts to evade restrictions.

4. Listings, messages and conduct

• Keep listings accurate, lawful and current. Disclose material conditions, fees and eligibility requirements, and remove or update a listing when it is no longer available.
• Do not post scams, deceptive offers, illegal or discriminatory content, harassment, hate, sexual exploitation, malware, spam, manipulated engagement, content that infringes rights, or another person’s private information.
• Do not scrape, copy at scale, reverse engineer, overload, disrupt or bypass security, rate limits, access controls or payment flows.
• Do not use information obtained through Hi Canada for unsolicited marketing, identity profiling, surveillance or any purpose unrelated to the listing or conversation.
• Use messages respectfully and do not send threats or repeated unwanted contact.

5. Jobs and housing

A publisher is solely responsible for its listing and for complying with employment, human-rights, tenancy, consumer-protection, licensing, tax and other laws that apply. Hi Canada does not provide legal, immigration, employment or housing advice.

• Do not ask a worker to pay to apply for or obtain a job, misstate compensation, or publish criteria prohibited by applicable human-rights or employment law.
• Do not request a housing deposit before a reasonable opportunity to view and verify the property and publisher. Publishers must disclose rent and material terms accurately and follow applicable tenancy rules.
• Users must independently verify identity, authority, working conditions, housing, documents and payment instructions before relying on them.

6. Your content and licence

You keep ownership of content you submit. You give Hi Canada a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable licence to host, copy, store, format, translate, resize, display, distribute and adapt that content as reasonably needed to operate, secure, promote and improve the service. This licence ends when the content is deleted, except for cached, backup, legal and previously authorized promotional copies.

You confirm that the content is accurate, that you have all necessary rights and permissions, and that our permitted use will not violate another person’s rights or law. You waive moral rights only to the extent needed for the permitted use and allowed by law. Feedback may be used without restriction or compensation.

7. Hi Canada content and intellectual property

The service, design, software, branding and Hi Canada-created content are owned by or licensed to Hi Canada and are protected by applicable laws. Subject to these terms, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-transferable right to use the service for its intended purpose. No other rights are granted.

8. Fees, taxes and payments

Standard listings are currently free. Optional products, such as a time-limited visibility boost, have a fee shown before checkout. Prices are in Canadian dollars unless stated otherwise. The total price and any government-imposed tax will be shown before payment, and payments are processed by Stripe. Publishers are responsible for taxes arising from their own activity.

A boost starts after payment is confirmed and improves visibility for the period shown at checkout. It does not guarantee a particular rank, number of views, messages, applications or transaction. Except where required by law or expressly stated at checkout, fees for a boost that has started, a listing suspended for a terms violation, or a listing removed at the publisher’s request are non-refundable. We may correct an obvious pricing error or cancel and refund an order we cannot provide. Marketplace transactions, if later offered, will be governed by additional terms.

9. Other users and third-party services

Users deal with one another at their own risk. Hi Canada is not responsible for screening users, inspecting a workplace or property, guaranteeing payment, resolving employment or tenancy disputes, or completing a transaction. Verification indicators, moderation or payment do not constitute an endorsement or guarantee.

Links and integrations may lead to independent services such as Google, Stripe or a publisher’s website. Their terms and privacy practices apply, and Hi Canada is not responsible for their availability, content or conduct.

10. Moderation, suspension and termination

We may investigate, preserve evidence, reject, edit for formatting, reduce distribution, remove or restore content, and restrict, suspend or terminate accounts or workspaces when we reasonably believe this is necessary to enforce these terms, protect users or the service, respond to legal requests, prevent fraud, collect amounts owed or manage operational risk. We do not promise to review every listing or message.

You may stop using the service at any time. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination—including payment obligations, licences for retained copies, disclaimers, releases, indemnities and liability limits—will survive.

11. Service changes and availability

We may add, modify, pause or discontinue features and may impose reasonable technical or usage limits. We do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free or permanent availability, preservation of every draft, message or image, or compatibility with every device. Keep independent copies of information you need.

12. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hi Canada is provided “as is” and “as available,” without express, implied or statutory warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, safety or results. We do not guarantee that a listing is accurate, lawful or available, that a job will be filled, that a member will respond, or that an interaction will be safe or successful. Nothing in these terms excludes a warranty or right that cannot lawfully be excluded.

13. Release and limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you release Hi Canada and its operator, personnel and service providers from claims arising from disputes or dealings between users or with a third party. Hi Canada will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, lost profits, lost data, loss of opportunity, reputational harm or the conduct of another user.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Hi Canada’s total aggregate liability for all claims relating to the service will not exceed the greater of CAD $100 and the fees you paid directly to Hi Canada during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. These limits do not apply where liability cannot lawfully be limited.

14. Your indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you will defend, indemnify and hold harmless Hi Canada and its operator, personnel and service providers from third-party claims, losses, liabilities and reasonable costs arising from your content, listing, business activity, interaction with another user, breach of these terms, or violation of law or another person’s rights. This does not require you to indemnify a party for its own fraud, wilful misconduct or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

15. General terms

These terms and the Privacy Policy are the agreement between you and Hi Canada for the service. We may update them as the service develops; material changes will be identified by an updated effective date and, where appropriate, additional notice. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the applicable laws of Canada, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Subject to any mandatory consumer right, proceedings must be brought in the courts located in British Columbia. If a provision is unenforceable, it will be limited to the minimum extent necessary and the rest will continue. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these terms without consent; we may assign them in connection with the service or a business transfer.
